Series of armed robberies at jewelry stores has been solved by Kazan police

“The malefactors became a focus of policemen's attention after their first assault on the jewelry store in Zelenodolsk committed on February 20, 2017,” said Russian MIA official representative Irina Volk.

At about 7:00 PM the three men in masks invaded one of the trade centers. While one of the attackers held the seller at the point of a pistol, the two others broke the shop windows. Having packed several trays with gold jewelry into the preliminarily prepared large bags, the malefactors fled the scene. The authorities initiated a criminal case on that fact subject to Part 2 Article 162 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

Soon, employees of the Administration of Criminal Investigation of the MIA for Tatarstan together with policemen of the Criminal Investigation Division of the Russian MIA Administration for Kazan and the Russian MIA Administration for the Zelenodolsky District established that the crime had been perpetrated by four residents of Kazan aged from 22 to 26 and one 27-year old resident of Zelenodolsk, supposedly the gang leader. He did not directly participate in the robbery, but he had worked out the plan of the crime. He had also provided each of the accomplices with construction gloves and balaclavas and had given them an air pistol and a nail drawer. Another defendant acted as the driver.

On March 19 at about 6:00 PM, three suspects arrived in the rented Lada Largus with forged identification numbers at the place of another crime at the Central Market in Kazan. Another attacker arrived by bicycle. Knowing about the planned assault, criminal investigation policemen made an ambush.

Scarcely had the malefactors in masks run into the jewelry store, when the policemen immediately captured them. The robbery organizer was detained at the parking where he was waiting for the accomplices. Policemen confiscated two nail drawers and an air pistol from the attackers.

The authorities initiated another criminal case on the fact of that assault subject to Part 2 Article 162 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

On the same evening, the police captured two other members of the criminal group who had participated in the first assault.

Policemen are now checking the defendants for their involvement in similar crimes.
