Man suspected of at least twenty thefts was captured by Smolensk police

The Duty Unit of Police Division No. 2 of the Russian MIA Administration for Smolensk received a complaint about a theft from a resident of settlement Krasny Bor. The complainant told the policemen who arrived at the specified address that an unknown man had invaded his garage and stolen the wheels for a domestic car from there. Criminal investigation policemen established that over ten similar crimes had been registered in the region within a short period of time.

Soon, a 37-year old local with several prior convictions became a focus of policemen's attention. The suspect was detained and convoyed to the Police Division. The man admitted his guilt in the crimes he was charged with. He explained that he had burgled garages, warehouses and residential facilities, stolen property attractive to him and then sold it, and used the yielded money for his personal needs.

By the moment, the police have proved the suspect's involvement in 20 thefts perpetrated in Smolensk. The location of the stolen property and the damage caused are being established.

The authorities have initiated criminal cases against the suspect based on essential elements of a crime stipulated by Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation that will soon be consolidated. The maximum punishment stipulated by this article is imprisonment for up to five years.
