A resident of Ryazan complained about the theft to the Duty Unit of the Police Division in village 2nd Gavrilovka. According to the woman, she owns an uninhabited house in village 1st Peresypkino looked after by her relatives. Upon her next arrival, she found signs of breaking of the front door. As was found out, unknown people had invaded the house and stolen the decorations of the woman's father, a participant in the Great Patriotic War, the medal “For the Capture of Berlin”, the Order of the Red Star, and other anniversary medals of the Great Patriotic War. Besides, the thieves had also stolen five bedding sets, radio receiver “Ocean”, a woolen carpet, and two carpet runners.
Policemen performed a complex of investigation and search measures and captured the man suspected of the theft. The unemployed 57-year old man was detained in village 1st Peresypkino. He was convoyed to the Division of Internal Affairs. The man did not deny his involvement into the theft and admitted his guilt. The malefactor said where he had hidden the medals, and policemen confiscated them. The suspect had already sold a part of the stolen property and had used the money to buy alcoholic beverages. Policemen also established that the detained had prior convictions for similar crimes. An inspection is being carried out. The issue regarding initiation of a criminal case based on essential elements of a crime stipulated by Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation is being settled.
