“As a result of the special operation, employees of the Administration of Criminal Investigation of the Russian MIA General Administration for the Novosibirsk Region detained a 51-year old arriver from a near-abroad country on suspicion of attempted kidnapping,” said Russian MIA official representative Irina Volk.

The police received information about preparations for a crime and about the fact that the organizer was searching an actor to kidnap the Novosibirsk businessman. A criminal investigation policeman acted as a representative of the criminal community ready to perpetrate that crime. The “actor” was to hold the victim in a specially rented flat until the businessman had paid the ransom in the amount of five million rubles. Later, the organizer showed the future victim to the “kidnapper” and provided him with the information required to implement the criminal plan.

Policemen took a range of measures so that the kidnapping organizer had no doubts in the reality of the crime being committed. By the moment when the suspect came to the flat, the “kidnapped” man had been tied up and was talking on the phone asking to collect the money as soon as possible. In a few minutes, the suspect was captured by policemen.

By now, the investigation authorities of the Investigation Administration of the Investigation Committee of Russia for the Novosibirsk Region have initiated a criminal case based on essential elements of a crime stipulated by Articles 30 and 126 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The court has imposed restraint in the form of pre-trial detention on the suspect. The investigation is ongoing. The defendant is being checked for his involvement in similar crimes.
