“Policemen of the General Administration for Economic Security and Combating the Corruption of the Russian MIA, the General Administration for Combating Extremism of the Russian MIA, the Administration for Economic Security and Combating the Corruption of the Russian MIA General Administration for Moscow, and the Administration for Economic Security and Combating the Corruption of the Russian MIA for the Republic of Dagestan carried out a special operation aimed to suppress unlawful activities of the interregional organized group whose members are suspected on distribution of counterfeit 5,000 ruble notes,” said Russian MIA official representative Irina Volk.
Facts of sale of counterfeit banknotes for a total amount of over 1 million rubles at the price of 35% of their face value had been detected in the Moscow Region.
Based on the materials collected, the police initiated three criminal cases according to Article 186 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Production, storage, transportation or use of counterfeit money or securities”.
Servicemen of the Moscow Special Purpose Police Unit were engaged in the final stage of the operation aimed to detain the identified members of the gang.
One counterfeit money distributor – a 29-year old native of the Leningrad Region who had moved to Dagestan – was detained in Moscow. Simultaneously, two organizers of the unlawful activities and the supplier of counterfeit money – a 40-year old previously convicted native of village Khindakh of the Gunibsky District – were detained in the Republic of Dagestan.
The detained men were remanded in custody.
