“Officers of the MIA GA for ES&CC together with the FSB Department and the ES&CC Administration of the MIA GA for the Chelyabinsk Region suppressed the illegal activity of the director of jewelry company and his accomplices, suspected of illegal acquisition and possession of raw gemstones on an especially large scale,” said the MIA official representative Irina Volk.
During raids in the territory of the enterprise and in the homes of suspects, as well as in their rented deposit boxes the detectives found and seized more than 5,500 grams of raw emeralds and alexandrites. The total value of the seizure of one of the most expensive gemstones will be determined after the gemological and financial study by the staff of the Forensic Center of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The Police initiated a criminal case against the director of the organization under article of the Criminal Code “Illegal circulation of precious metals, natural precious stones or pearls, committed by an organized group”. This article presumes a punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of up to seven years.
