Officers of the General Investigation Administration together with colleagues from the Office of Special Events of the MIA General Administration for the City of Moscow and FSB operatives in Moscow and the Moscow region suppressed the activity of an organized group, whose members using a computer program stole funds from a Russian payment system.
The Police has found that in September 2014 the suspects, using a computer program that allows through remote access to secretly control personal computers, including the issue of binding commands by entering and modifying the computer information, carried out unauthorized access to the local network of a payment system.
Thus, they were able to manage this computer network: issue binding commands to individual servers and computers that supported the operation of the system of payments execution.
It was found that during the period from 10 to 11 October 2014 the members of the organized group made illegal payments to payment system counterparties totaling more than 161 million rubles, which later they turned in their favor and used at their sole discretion, causing a material damage to the system of payments on a large scale.
In August 2013 the General Investigation Administration of the MIA General Administration for the City of Moscow initiated a criminal investigation into the fact of fraud with computer information.
On April 14 and 15, police officers carried out a number of searches and investigations, which resulted in the detention of three suspects.
During the searches the Police found and seized bank cards, a large number of mobile phones, SIM cards, photocopies of passports, skimming equipment and other items and documents that are relevant to the criminal investigation.
