As part of the preventive campaign "Safe Internet" Chief of the "K" Division of the MIA for the Republic of Mari El Ivan Smolentsev and Deputy Chairman of the Public Council with the Ministry of Internal Affairs Valentin Sevastyanov held a training workshop for the Chavayna library staff.
Chief of the "K" Division of the MIA for the Republic of Mari El Ivan Smolentsev spoke about the most widespread Internet crimes characteristic of Mari El. He noted that in 2014 the police initiated 63 criminal investigations within the framework of which officers of the "K" Division found 65 crimes in the information and telecommunications environment. The largest number of them refers to theft of funds from the bank accounts of customer's.
Speakers described how one could protect his computer from Internet threats: by using content filters offered by providers or found independently and by installing on the computer the licensed software and continuously updated anti-virus software.
The guests' main advice was to be vigilant and always objectively and intelligently assess the information and to necessarily double-check it. More detailed recommendations for the participants of the seminar are provided in booklets developed by the MIA "K" Administration.
The brochures contains expert advice on how to protect your computer from malware, how to protect oneself from fraud with bank cards and offenders, resorting to the phone and sms-fraud.
