Minister of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, Police Colonel-General Vladimir Kolokoltsev and the Interior and Municipalities Minister of the Lebanese Republic Nouhad Machnouk discussed current trends and forms of cooperation.
The head of the Russian MIA told about the law enforcement tasks entrusted to the Ministry. The main of them - the protection of life, health, rights and freedoms of citizens, the fight against crime, ensuring public safety and order in the country. "The Ministry manages the internal affairs bodies of the Russian Federation and the internal troops and is the leader in the fight against extremism", - informed the head of the Russian MIA.
Vladimir Kolokoltsev noted that the formation of the legal framework will contribute to the development of cooperation and handed over a draft Agreement on cooperation, incorporating the comments of both the parties.
Nouhad Mashnuk, in his turn, promised to take under his control the process of coordination of the document and expressed interest in sharing the experience in combating extremism and terrorism. The Lebanese minister noted the success of the Russian Police in its fight against crime, the reduction of which has been observed for the third consecutive year.
The parties noted that one of the key areas of joint activity is the use of the potential of the Interpol. The MIA National Central Bureau of Interpol in cooperation with law enforcement authorities of Lebanon carried out the informational support of 35 materials, including 5 criminal cases.
Vladimir Kolokoltsev reported that in November in Monaco at the 83rd session of the General Assembly of the Organization the chief of the Russian Bureau of Interpol Police Major-General Alexander Prokopchuk will be nominated to the Executive Committee of Interpol from Europe. Nouhad Mashnuk confirmed his readiness to positively consider the proposal.
In addition, the Minister invited to visit the international exhibition of tools ensuring state security "Interpolitech - 2014" to be held in Moscow next month. The Lebanese party expressed its interest in the event and noted that it would send its representatives.
At the end of the meeting Nouhad Mashnuk asked Vladimir Kolokoltsev to consider the issue of training Lebanese officers in Russia. The Minister of Internal Affairs said that it will be possible to train specialists on the basis of the International Police Academy of the Russian MIA.
