Operatives established identity of three men who are in prison and are suspected of committing a series of telephone frauds. Currently, there have been documented more than 30 episodes of criminal activity of the malefactors.
According to preliminary data, the idea of stealing funds using mobile phones and the Internet united the three prisoners serving sentences in one of the penal colonies in the Tula Region. The men used to send SMS messages to mobile phones of residents of different regions of Russia, in which they informed of a large prize won by the subscriber. The victim was offered to pay an advertising and prize contribution, the amount of which varied from 10 to 25 thousand rubles, and become the proud owner of a new expensive foreign cars. For credibility the message also contained a reference to the earlier created on the Internet fictitious site of the Russian representation of a large automotive concern, which also contained information about awarding cars and conditions of the promotion campaign.
Residents of the Kaluga and Yaroslavl regions, the Republic of Tatarstan and the Krasnodar Territory suffered from the criminal activities of the fraudsters. They transferred the money through electronic payment systems. After that "carshop manager" stopped the contacts.
There have been initiated criminal cases under the articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, providing for liability for fraud committed by an organized group. The full range of victims of the malefactors' activity is being established.
