In the village Volodarsky the staff of the specialized platoon of the Traffic Police detached battalion No3 stopped a car run by a 31-year-old driver for violation of Traffic Rules. After checking the documents the police noticed polyethylene bags in the back seat of the car. The driver explained that he was transporting carp, but any accompanying documents were absent.
Investigative team of the MIA Sub-division for the Volodarsky District was called to the place. After opening the bags it was found that they contained Stellate sturgeon and Russian sturgeon weighing in total more than 200 kilograms. The seized fish was deposited for safekeeping.
For illegal fishing, purchase and storage of aquatic- biological resources belonging to the species listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation, the law provides for up to three years imprisonment with a fine of up to one million rubles.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated against the suspect.
