Employee of the MIA Administration for the City of Murmansk became the winner of the IX World Championship in Winter Swimming at a distance of 450 meters, winning the gold medal and the title of World Champion.
The Finnish town of Rovaniemi hosted the IX World Championship in Winter Swimming, which was attended by 1200 athletes from 34 countries.
The winner of the championship is a duty-officer of the temporary detention unit of the Police Division number 1, the MIA Administration for the city of Murmansk, Police Senior Lieutenant Vladimir Danchenkov. A distance of 450 meters, he covered in 7 minutes and 6 seconds, which was the best result among men of his age group.
Vladimir Danchenkov became interested in swimming in the high school. There he joined the water polo team of the Northern Fleet. In 1979 he received the title of Candidate Master of Sports. Vladimir got interested in winter swimming in 2008, and since then he has become a regular participant of the annual swims and of competitions in this kind of sport.
