The All-Russian Sambo Championship of the Police started in the Nizhny Novgorod Region

On February 3, 2014 an opening ceremony of individual and team championship of the MOI of Russia in self-defense without arms among Russian internal affairs officers took place in the town of Kstovo of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

Competitions are held at the International Olympic Academy of Sambo. The ceremony was attended by Police Lieutenant-General Ivan Shayev, Head of the MIA Main Administration in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Deputy Governor, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Valery Nazarov, Chairman of the Public Council with the MIA Main Administration in the Nizhny Novgorod Region Vitaly Potapov, representatives of other divisions of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, stationed in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, representatives of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Policy, of the Regional Sambo Federation and of the Administration of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

Head of the MIA Main Administration in the Nizhny Novgorod Region Ivan Shayev noted that Sambo is an applied art for the police. Sambo fighting skills more than once helped the police to detain offenders.

The competition will be attended by representatives of 82 teams from departments and educational institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, located in the territory of Russia. In the course of three days of competitions about 800 participants of the Championship will appear on the tatami. The MIA Main Administration in the Nizhny Novgorod will be represented by a team of seven athletes.
