First extradition from Japan to Russia of suspect in criminal case has taken place

“Today, accompanied by officers of the MIA of Russia NCB of Interpol and the Russian FSIN, Aleksandr Zolenko was extradited to Russia from Japan.

According to available information, in the period from 1992 to 2006 he was an active participant and one of the leaders of an organized criminal community, responsible for murders, hijackings of vehicles, laundering of the money obtained as a result of crimes. The criminal group carried out its illegal activities in the Far East.

Aleksandr Zolenko, charged with committing crimes under parts 1, 2 of Article 210, part 3 of Article 166, part 1 of Article 174.1, part 1 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code, was put on the wanted list on the basis of a request from the MIA of Russia Administration for the Sakhalin Region.

Today, having satisfied the request of the Russian Federation for extradition, the Japanese competent authorities handed over the wanted man to officers of the MIA of Russia NCB of the Interpol and the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service for delivery to Moscow,” said the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs Irina Volk.
