Swindlers “helped” citizens get loans leaving them without a penny. Police conducted a large-scale operation to detain 16 fraud suspects

“Officers of the MIA of Russia GA for the Altai Territory suppressed the activities of suspects in a series of large-scale frauds. According to available information, the number of victims exceeds a thousand people. These mostly residents of the Altai and Krasnoyarsk Territories, Kemerovo and Novosibirsk Regions.

Investigators of the GA for Investigation of the MIA of Russia GA for the Altai Territory instituted criminal proceedings on the grounds of crimes provided for in part 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

Special operation to detain the offenders who promised citizens assistance in obtaining loans, but in reality stole their money, was carried out simultaneously in four regions of the Russian Federation by officers of the Division for Economic Security and Combating the Corruption (ES&CC) of the MIA of Russia Administration for the city of Barnaul, together with colleagues from the MIA of Russia GA for the Altai Territory with the participation of the Rosgvardia. In the course of 25 searches, forms, seals, stamps, computer equipment, cell phones, SIM cards of evidentiary significance for the criminal case were seized.

According to available information, the roles were clearly divided among 16 accomplices: some found citizens who needed money, others convinced potential customers that the company for remuneration guaranteed the approval by this or that bank of the required amount, the third served as employees of the “call center”, the fourth were responsible for advertising on the Internet, as well as collecting money for imaginary services.

Currently the court selected for four defendants a preventive measure in the form of placement to custody. The rest are on recognizance not to leave and behave properly,” said the official spokesperson for the Russian MIA Irina Volk.
