Police detained in Korolev, near Moscow, suspects of serial car thefts

Officers of the Criminal Investigation Department of the MIA of Russia Administration for the Urban District of Korolev detained two residents of Moscow, aged 37 and 42, who were suspected of committing a series of thefts of Korean-made cars.

The offenders using special equipment to open the lock and start the engine stole a foreign car parked near one of the houses. The police established their involvement in another vehicle theft in the Urban District of Dmitrov. The total damage from these unlawful activities exceeded 1.6 million rubles.

During a search of the garage belonging to one of the offenders, the investigators found and seized two control units, a signal muffler and two previously stolen cars that were returned to their rightful owners.

Criminal cases were initiated under Article 158 “Theft” of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Placement to custody was selected by court as the preventive measure for the suspects.
