In 2018, a 19-year-old resident of Yoshkar-Ola, who had suffered from actions of spreading malicious software, applied to the police.
During the operative-search activities the Police detained a 26-year-old resident of Novokuznetsk. It was established that in the period from October 2017 to August 2018, he installed on the leased Internet servers a malicious program intended for stealing personal data. The young man carried out the testing and administration of this software, and also committed the theft and sale of logins, passwords from browsers and mail boxes of clients and information on bank cards. The bot-net, created by the offender, brought together more than seven hundred infected computers, to which he had full access.
As a result of a search conducted by police officers and experts of a company specializing in preventing cyberattacks, computer equipment confirming the man’s involvement in committing unlawful acts was found and seized at the suspect’s place of residence.
A criminal case under part 1 of Article 273 of the RF Criminal Code “Creation, use and distribution of malicious software” was initiated. The suspect confessed. The preventive measure selected against the suspect was a subscription on his appearance in court.
