“Officers of the MIA of Russia Administration for Voronezh detained a 29-year-old, previously repeatedly convicted local resident suspected of committing telephone fraud against retirees,” said the official representative of the Russian MIA Irina Volk.
“According to preliminary information, in the period from November 2018 to January 2019, the offender telephoned women over 70 who lived in the Kominternovsky District of the city of Voronezh. In the course of the conversation, he informed the victim that her grandson or granddaughter had become involved in a traffic accident. Then he allegedly passed the phone to the mentioned relative and, changing his voice, said that a large amount of money was needed, for which a young man would soon arrive. After that, he arrived at the place of residence of the pensioner and took away the money,” said Irina Volk.
15 inhabitants of the city of Voronezh suffered from the unlawful actions of the men. The total amount of the stolen money was about 650 thousand rubles.
For those circumstances, the investigative unit of the MIA of Russia Administration for the city of Voronezh initiated 15 criminal cases on the grounds of crimes stipulated by part 2 of Article 159 of the RF Criminal Code. Remand in custody was selected as the preventive measure for the detainee.
