“A 34-year-old citizen of one of the East Asian states, who came to the island to get acquainted with its sights, turned to the duty unit of the MIA of Russia Administration for the city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. The woman reported that she had her purse stolen, in which there were 250 thousand Japanese yens, about 30 thousand rubles and her passport,” said the official representative of the Russian MIA Irina Volk.
Within 24 hours, criminal investigation officers established the circumstances of the theft and detained the suspect. She turned out to be a 39-year-old resident of the regional center, who had been repeatedly convicted for property crimes. According to available information, the offender pulled the purse out of the victim's backpack during a trip in a bus.
“The stolen money was found by the police and returned to the rightful owner.
A criminal case was initiated against the suspect on the grounds of the crime provided for in paragraphs “c” and “d” of part 2 of Article 158 of the RF Criminal Code,” Irina Volk said.
