“During the monitoring of the media conducted by the staff of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in order to identify materials about committed and upcoming unlawful acts, in one of the regional media there was found a publication about fraud against a veteran of the Great Patriotic War and his wife living in St. Petersburg.
The article says that representatives of a non-existent “insurance organization” came to the apartment of the elderly spouses, and offered them to purchase electronic medical equipment for diagnosing diseases, and stole a large amount of money. Then, under the pretext of exchanging money for new-style banknotes, they seized the remaining savings of the pensioners.
The Minister of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, General of the Police of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Kolokoltsev, instructed the leadership of the MIA of Russia GA for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region to immediately verify the information contained in the media material. In the event the information is confirmed, as soon as possible, there will be made a decision to initiate a criminal case, identify the persons involved in the crime, and carry out the necessary measures aimed at detaining them,” said the official representative of the MIA of Russia Irina Volk.
