“The Minister of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, General of the Police of the Russian Federation Vladimir Kolokoltsev, took a decision to award departmental medals ‘For Courage in the Cause of Rescue’ to traffic police officers of the MIA of Russia Inter-municipal Administration for Novouralsk Municipal District and Inter-district Division ‘Uralsky Settlement’ of the Sverdlovsk Region - Senior State Road Supervision Inspector of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate, police Captain Ilshat Ahunov and Inspector of a detached platoon of the Road Patrol Service police Senior Lieutenant Oksana Melkikh, for coordinated and resolute actions at the rescue from a fire”, informed the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Irina Volk.

On May 14, when patrolling the territory, Ilshat Akhunov and Oksana Melkikh received a signal from citizens about the fire in an apartment building. Arriving at the fire, the police saw on the balcony of the fourth floor a woman calling for help. She said that in the burning apartment there was her friend - an invalid. Police captain Ilshat Ahunov quickly climbed to the fourth floor, put a wet towel to his face and rushed to the rescue. He found the helpless woman in a smoke-filled apartment and carried her on his shoulders to the street. There police Senior Lieutenant Oksana Melkikh rendered the first medical aid to the victim and then transferred her to the arrived ambulance crew. The second rescued woman did not suffer.

“The minister signed the order awarding the distinguished employees who showed endurance and professionalism in an extreme situation,” added Irina Volk.
