“Criminal investigation officers of the Russian MIA General Administration for the Krasnoyarsk Territory suppressed a gang suspected of a series of money thefts from ATMs in the territorial center and in village Berezovka. The malefactors had acted mostly at night. Using software, they had opened up payment terminals and stolen the cash from them,” said Russian MIA official representative Irina Volk.
As a result of investigation and search measures, the police identified the suspects and, together with servicemen of the Rosgvardia, captured the criminals as they opened up another terminal in the Zheleznodorozhny District of Krasnoyarsk.
In the course of the searches, the police found tools, hardware, as well as two expensive cars bought for the stolen money. The police established the defendants' involvement in 8 similar offenses. The inflicted damage exceeded 15 million rubles.
“The authorities initiated criminal cases based on essential elements of a crime stipulated by Part 4 Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The detained – two young men aged 23 and a 50-year old man with several prior convictions – were remanded in custody,” added Irina Volk.
