Officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia detained officials for abusing their official powers in the Trans-Baikal Territory

“Officers of the Administration for Economic Security and Combating the Corruption (ES&CC) of the MIA of Russia Administration in the Trans-Baikal Territory detained the Minister of Agriculture of the Territory and his deputy. In the course of operational investigation, police officers established that the suspects had abused their official powers and illegally interfered in the activities of agricultural enterprises of the Trans-Baikal Territory,” said the official representative of the MIA of Russia Irina Volk.

In 2017, a number of agricultural producers were allocated money from the federal budget to recover the damage from the summer drought. The money was intended for the purchase of seeds, fodder, machinery, but the officials, abusing their official powers, demanded that the farmers from the received compensation would repay early the loans issued to them by the Fund for support of entrepreneurs. From the illegally collected funds, the suspects issued a loan of 10 million rubles to another agricultural enterprise.

With regard to the Minister and his deputy, the investigative authorities instituted criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Art. 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Abuse of authority) and part 2 of Art. 169 of the Criminal Code (Obstruction of legal entrepreneurial or other activities).

“In the course of the conducted searches, the documentation that reveals illegal actions of officials was seized. A preventive measure in the form of remand in custody was chosen for the suspects,” added Irina Volk.
