“Today in Singapore, the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, General of the Police of the Russian Federation Vladimir Kolokoltsev spoke at the plenary session to the participants of the 37th ASEANAPOL conference,” the MIA official representative Irina Volk, said.
The Chief of the Russian MIA noted that the priority of cooperation between our country and the ASEAN and further deepening of cooperation in law enforcement were “an important component of joint work of modernizing the regional security architecture.” These directions were established by the final decisions of the Russia-ASEAN summit held last year in Sochi.
Great importance is assigned to improving contacts on the police level. Most recently – in July this year, Russia and ASEAN launched a mechanism for meetings of senior officials in the anti-drug area.
The Minister appreciated highly the ongoing development of cooperation with law enforcement agencies of ASEAN member states in various areas of combating crime and, in particular, in the field of countering terrorism.
Addressing the conference participants, the Chief of the Russian MIA announced the readiness for coordinated operational measures to counter drug groups. “Crypto-currencies and modern electronic payment systems are used to conceal and legalize criminal proceeds, as well as to finance terrorist activities. In this regard, the task of improving the cooperation of the competent bodies to prevent the use of innovative resources for criminal purposes becomes more urgent,”- Vladimir Kolokoltsev stressed.
In addition, the importance of raising the level of training and professionalism of police officers was noted. To this end, courses for ASEAN police officers are being conducted on the basis of the leading educational institutions of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs and interest in them is continuously growing.
Also, the Russian Minister informed foreign partners about the 21st International Exhibition of Means for Provision of State Security “Interpolitex-2017” in Moscow from 17 to 29 October of the current year and invited the conference participants to attend this event.
In conclusion, the Chief of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia expressed confidence that a constructive and open dialogue between the police bodies of Russia and the ASEAN countries was the key to stability and security in South-East Asia.
