“As a result of the investigation and search measures, officers of the General Administration of Criminal Investigation of the Russian MIA together with the Division for Economic Security and Corruption Control of the Internal Affairs Administration for the South-Eastern Administrative District of the Russian MIA General Administration for Moscow apprehended two suspects as they attempted using counterfeit banknotes in a total amount of 320,000 rubles,” said the Russian MIA official representative Irina Volk.
Those were locals of the Moscow Region aged 40 and 44, one of whom had a criminal record.
The Investigation Administration of the Internal Affairs Administration for the South-Eastern Administrative District of the Russian MIA General Administration for Moscow initiated a criminal case on that fact based on essential elements of a crime stipulated by Part 1 Article 186 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
“The detainees also attempted selling 17,000 euros under the guise of a good currency exchange deal. The money was marked with a so called chemical trap used to prevent thefts from ATMs,” added Irina Volk.
The suspects were remanded in custody.
The police currently continue investigation and search measures aiming to detect other cases of the detainees' illicit activities and to identify their accomplices.
