“The General Administration for Economic Security and Corruption Control of the Russian MIA organized a procedural check on the fact of misappropriation of over 1 million rubles collected by a charitable institution for treatment of seriously ill children,” said the Russian MIA official representative Irina Volk.
Officers of the General Administration for Economic Security and Corruption Control of the Russian MIA together with the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation revealed that in 2014–2016 the head of the children's trauma and orthopedic department of the regional clinical hospital within the program for rescuing seriously ill children had sent false information to the charitable institution about the need in expensive medical equipment. Based on the documents provided, the charitable fund made payments to buy specialized medical equipment (structures) for surgeries to correct scoliotic deformities in children that were misused by the malefactor to yield profit for personal purposes.
Based on the results of the check accomplished by the Investigation Unit of the MIA Administration for the Tyumen Region, the authorities initiated a criminal case subject to Part 4 Article 159 (Fraud) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
The police currently carry out measures to establish all the circumstances of the above unlawful activity.
